Since many wines and beer use the same UPC for different vintages or seasonal beer brands, the vintage/seasonal function allows linking the same UPC to multiple products. When any shared UPC product is scanned at the register, the cashier can see all products linked to the same UPC and then select the correct product. This allows for accurate pricing, sales history, and stock update of the exact product and eliminates the need to group like items together into one product name.
